The next round of the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Summer Fell Race Series is the Guisborough Grunt on Wednesday 15th August 7pm start. The registration is at Guisborough Rugby Club. Click here for a map of the race route. The race is 6 miles long with 1350 feet of ascent.

Northern Runner has some slight cosmetic second’s in the La Sportiva Crosslites which we are able to sell at £60 both in our Newcastle-upon-Tyne Shop and through our website. This is a saving of £25. A balmy summer’s evening with a variable breeze. What was noticeable in the men’s race was that the first eight runners were from different clubs. In the men’s race Jim Bulman was soon in a clear lead with Paul Butler his main challenger. By Roseberry Jim had a clear lead of two minutes with Paul being three minutes ahead of the third placed runner Nick Barber. This order remained through the finish line. Chester-le-Street Athlete Freya Murray has been picked to run for Team GB in Sunday’s Olympic Marathon. Freya who ran 2 Hours 28 Minutes in London Marathon in April to narrowly miss out on selection was called up after Paula Radcliffe has pulled out.

Bellingham Show Fell Race is on Saturday 25th August at 2pm. The race is 4 miles long with 600 feet of ascent. Entry is £4 on the day only. Bellingham Show is a country show with all the usual attraction so bring the family and make a day of it.

The Powburn Show and Hill Race, this Saturday 4th August, are both on! The show field is in fine condition despite recent weather. Race, approx 4 miles with one ‘little’ hill, is at 1pm. Race entry is free. Entry to show is about £3.50 or £4, perhaps less for kids. Come prepared to take part in some of the show’s other activities such as the egg catching competition and welly-hoying.
