A pleasant day for January dry with a biting west wind. The ground was still suffering from the previous night’s frost and proved slippery in places. The main field set off and within 200m split into two distinct trains, one up the immediate climb and one at a diagonal to the SW. The last race in the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Winter Fell Race Series was Captain Cooks Fell Race on New Years Day the weather was a little unkind with fairly wet and blustery conditions but a great day was had by all. This was epitomised by some of the younger participants who insisted on showing me how muddy they were from slipping over. Clay Bank East Fell Race 2014

The next race in the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Winter Fell Race Series is Clay Bank East on Sunday 5th January. The race is just over 5 miles long with about 1,000 feet of ascent. The fun starts at 10.30am from Clay Bank Car Park which is just south of Great Broughton on the B1256 near Stokesley. Entry is on the day only, registration is in the car park. Guisborough Woods Fell Race Results 2013

A very windy and cold day with temperature on the moor at about zero. A large turnout meant we were a few minutes late away but once under way we soon had an excellent race with Paul Lowe leading the men from the start.
