The latest round of the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Summer Fell Race Series saw a balmy August evening where the light is getting tight so thanks to the sweeper for keeping an eye on the rear of the field. Another sultry night which made for fast running. As they set off it was the usual culprit injecting the pace in Paul Butler through to Greenhill with Jack Willis hanging in behind then a group of four led by Cameron Taylor. In the women’s race Kay Neesam set off quickly followed by Shelli Gordon and Nicola Kent. At the top of Highcliff the men were now grouped into three leaders in Paul, Jack and Cameron whilst in the women’s race there was a steady line of Kay, Shelli and Nicola.... Read More

Haveing been called off due to snow and ice the Blakey Blitz Fell Race took place on the 5th August. The Lion Inn must have been the coldest place in Britain at 8.00a.m. By the race start it had warmed up considerably and with a strong breeze made for ideal running conditions. On the first climb Ewan Brown had pulled away from the field as had Paul Butler in second. The next race in the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Summer Fell Race Series is the Gribdale Gallop on Wednesday 31st July 7.15pm start. Theevent start/finish and registration is at Gribdale Car Park 1 mile east of Great Ayton (Grid Ref NZ593111). The event is mainly on good tracks running upto Captain Cooks Monument, descending and cutting across the moor to Hanging Stone and then onto Roseberry Topping.
