Incline to Madness Fell Race Results 2013

The latest round of the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Summer Fell Race Series saw a balmy August evening where the light is getting tight so thanks to the sweeper for keeping an eye on the rear of the field. A great contest at the front of the men’s race with Nick Barber, Ian McGrath and Dan Middlemas all in good form. At the top of the infamous’Incline’ Nick had a clear lead with Ian and Dan chasing. As they approached Round Hill Ian had broken away from Dan and closed Nick to just 7 metres. Once Nick realised the
danger he flew down the last section to win by about 40 seconds. In the women’s section Kay Neesam continued her fantastic run of form with a clear win. Early on there had been five in contention Kay, Rhona Haslam, Heather Mockrie, Aly Raw and Nicola Kent. The Incline however sorted the legs and lungs out leaving Kay with a
good lead over Rhona and Heather with Aly and Nicola now running together not far behind. At the finish Kay won with Rhona returning to some better form in second and Heather in her first Hill race third. In the Men’s team section North York Moors were clear winners ahead of Esk Valley and
York Acorn. In the women’s team Loftus & Whitby finished just ahead of New Marske and
Scarborough with the current series leaders Thirsk & Sowerby fourth. The next few weeks sees a busy period with Castleton Show,Roseberry Topping and The Winter Series starting on 22/9/13 with The Viking Chase.
Best wishes………… Dave
