The weather just held off for a great night of fell running at the third counter in the Dave Parry/Northern Runner Summer Fell Race Series, Whorlton Run. 109 starters and finishers so well done everyone and £300 to playing fields funds, much appreciated by the playing field association who manage the site. The In the second summer series event of the Dave Parry/Northern Runner Fell Series 2017, the weather did not disappoint with a mild,sunny-ish albeit breezy evening and Bryan Miller (Thirsk and Sowerby) and his team were rewarded with 114 runners, with plenty of new faces.Ultimately the result turned on the final 800m, in a race characterised by the any choice return from the radiomast. The next race in the Dave Parry Summer Fell Race Series is a tough one. Ossy Oiks has a fell running classification of AS. Which means it is a short race with some very steep climbs and descents. The first race in the Dave Parry Summer Fell Race Series 2017 is the Fox and Hounds on Wednesday 17th May 2017. This is the 30th Anniversary of the classic race and it is being organised by Loftus and Whitby AC. The route is about 8 miles long with 1400 feet of ascent and is mainly on singletrack moorland paths. Fell shoes or very grippy nimble trail shoes would be best for this event. The next race in the Dave Parry Winter Fell Race Series is Glaisdale Rigg on Sunday 5th March 10.30am. The race is organised by Loftus and Whitby AC. Entry is £5 on the day only. The registration is at the Arncliffe Arms, Glaisdale, Nr Castleton, Guisborough, North Yorkshire (NZ 781058). The route is about 8.5 miles long with around 1500 feet of ascent. The High Cup Nick Fell Race is on Saturday 25th February 2017. This is a race organised by Morgan Donnelly, the 2012 British Fell Running Champion, and his Wife Lucy. This a traditional friendly race that starts and finishes in the village of Dufton in the Eden Valley. The latest event in the Dave parry Winter Fell Race Series was the Commondale Clart. Chris Roberts of York Knavesmire stormed to victory on the very sloppy course. Scot Adkin won the women’s race making it a York Knavesmire double. Click here to see the full results.
