Three Peaks Fell Race 2013

This Saturday the 59th Three Peaks Race will take place. The event goes over the summits of Pen y Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough cover 24 miles. The event attracts hardened fell runners and fast cross country runners as the route has sections of fast running in between the steep rugged climbs. The event has become the one to win for all northern runners. This years event will see last years winner Joe Symonds fresh from a 2 hour 20 minute marathon on the flat roads of Rotherdam return to try to further emulate his father, Hugh Symonds who won this race 3 times in the 1980’s. Other past winners set to join him on the start line with a chance of taking the honours are Rob Jebb (Bingley Harriers) who has won the race 4 times in the past, Ian Holmes (Bingley Harriers) and Tom Owens. Other notable runners to look out for are Ricky Lighfoot, a member of Salomons International Racing Team, Karl Grey (Calder Valley)and Dark Peak pair Rob Baker and Oli Johnson. The women’s race sees an overseas challenge from Oihanna Kortuzar, part of Salomons International Racing Team. The main competition to the Spanish athlete is likely to come from Carnethy’s Jasmin Paris who last year was the lady to beat on the British Fells. Click here to see the route map.
