Three Peaks Fell Race 2013
Jasmin Paris running for Carnethy AC won the ladies section of this years Three Peaks Fell Race. The reigning British Champion beat Oihana Kurtazar Apanzeta from Spain who was running for Salomon’s Internationa Racing Team. Paris was tracking Apanzeta all the way passing her on the descent of the final peak, Ingleborough. Apanzeta did have a heavy fall on the summit of Ingleborough and has a suspected broken arm. Joe Symonds, 29, running for Salomon’s International Racing Team won the men’s race for a second year in a row. The win increased the pressure on him to beat the achievement of his father, Hugh Symonds, of Kendal Athletic Club, who won in 1984, 1985 and 1987.
Joe’s time of 2hrs 54mins 39secs
just over a minute quicker than last year he was 5mins 5secs ahead of second placed Carl Bell,30, of Keswick Athletic Club , who was only six seconds in front of the third placed runner, Karl Gray, 43,of Calder Valley Fell Runners. Bell finished second in 2012 (his first attempt at the race)in 2hrs 57mins 29sec.Fourth this year was Rob Jebb, of Bingley Harriers, who won the race in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009.
His time was 3hrs 1min 46secs. A total of 745 runners started the 59
