The next race in the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Summer Fell Race Series is the Castleton Show Race. This is a fell race on the road. The race starts at 1.30pm and is approximatley 6 miles in length. For more details click here to the race website.
We certainly had the best of the weather with a breezy but warm evening unlike the preceding days and the following day where it was driving rain and somewhat cooler. In the senior men’s event it was Ewan Brown in his first local race up against Ian McGrath, with Dan Middlemas, Joe Blackett and Noel Clough in the following group. Monday 3rd September will mark the start of the Dragon’s Back. This is an epic 5 day mountain running race across the mountains of wales. The event was held once previously in 1992 and was won by Martin Stone (now the organiser of the LAMM), and Helen Diamantides (now Whitaker). On Monday 27th August Northern Runner’s Newcastle-upon-Tyne Store will be open from 11am to 4pm. We will then revert back to our usual opening times.
Race 11 in the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Summer Fell Race Series 2012 is Inclined to Madness. This is a new race starting at Carlton Bank top and takes place on Wednesday 29th August at 7pm. Entry is on the day only and £6. The route can be viewed by clicking here. The race is about 6 miles in length with 1200 feet of ascent. If it’s a clear night then the views from the highest points on the course will be great.
