KATADYN BeFree Water Filter | Introduction by NorthernRunner.com

Water is heavy. You need to drink but don’t want to carry too much of it!

It can be tricky to find fill up locations, depending on your run/race. This however is not so much of a problem when you are high up on the fells in the UK. The mountain streams are clear and there’s lots of them. Lower down the mountain side and on runs closer to habitation it’s not the best idea to drink from streams. However, this issue has been solved by the Katadyn Befree water filter. The filter weighs only 59 grams and comes with a 600ml soft flask (the top attaches to most other soft flasks).

It is designed to allow you to just fill up the flask with the available water and drink away. The filter removes bacteria, cysts and sediment with its pore size of 0.1 micron (0.0001mm). The output is up to 2L/min and the capacity up to 1000L, depending on the water quality. It is 100% PVC and BPA free.

The Katadyn Befree has been tried and tested by many ultramarathon runners, not least John Kelly during his Spike Race victory in 2019, are describing it  as a vital new edition to their kit. As mentioned above, reducing the weight to near zero but filling up on the go is an incredible advantage.

It rains in the UK. A lot usually. Just pack a Katadyn Befree on your next adventure and the plentiful rainfall could be used to your advantage!
