Guisborough Three Tops Fell Race 2014
The Guisborough Three Tops Fell Race was a beautiful day for running, if you ignore the strong head wind on the way out to Roseberry Topping, with an almost spring like feel at the start and finish. The leaders in the men’s were soon on a break with Lewis Rodgers (Loftus and Whitby) pulling out a lead of 10 metres in the first 400. He was chased by Charlie Stead (NFR and Northern Runner) and the unlucky Paul Brown (New Marske) who had to drop out from third at the half way stage due to a nasty sprain. Charlie and Lewis were to battle it out at the front with Lewis the younger man using his road speed to move away on the final descent. Chris Roberts (Knavesmire), Dan Middlemas (Loftus and Whitby and course controller) and Simon Jones (Pickering) had an excellent competition for third wrestled away by Chris in the end.
In the women’s race it was a renewal of rivalry between Kay Neesam (New Marske and current record holder) and Emma Bain (NFR). It was soon clear that the winner of the event would come from one of these two. Kay was her usual assertive self in the first half and this time went on to not only win but break her old record which she has now done on three occasions. Kay led her team – New Marske Harriers to victory whilst Emma led Northumberland FR into second. In the men’s team event it was York Knavesmire who prevailed ahead of Loftus + Whitby with Esk Valley on their home territory third. There was a record number of teams finishing which augers well for the future. Well done to all who took part and those who supported. Please don’t forget to volunteer to help as 50 bonus points are up for grabs which could greatly affect your total points. Tom thanks all who took him on a walk! … Best Wishes Dave Parry.
