Gribdale Gallop Fell Race 2012

The next race in the Northern Runner Summer Fell Race Series is the popular Gribdale Gallop. As well as having some big steep climbs this race is also fast underfoot. Which makes it a tough but, rewarding event. The race start and registration is from Grbdale Car Park which is 1 mile east of Great Ayton on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors. The race starts at 7.15pm and is about 8 miles long with 1400 feet of ascent. The first climb hits you straight away as you start running upto Captain Cooks Monument. You then dive downhill on the road to a farm and climb back upto the moor and over to the forestry above Hutton Village on your way to Hanging Stone. After remembering to leave the main track and touch the hanging stone. You work your down to the base of Roseberry Topping. Upto the top and down again. Up the steps back to the top of the moor and then race the 1.5 miles back to the start. On a lovely sunny evening this race is magic. On a misty wet night it’s a different world so bring the required fell kit to carry. Click here for a map of the course.
