Glaisdale Rigg Fell Race Results 2014

The latest round of the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Fell Club Winter Fell Race Series was an excellent day for running. The ground was very wet, boggy and muddy which slowed the runners down by about 2 minutes plus! The start was its usually frenetic self as runners charged away on the downhill. Within a mile however there were distinct groups forming. In the men’s event Jayson Cavill, Dan Middlemas, Chris Roberts and
Charlie Stead were soon the front runners and continued through ‘The Rigg.’ After this Jayson was able to apply pressure and on the long rolling finish broke away from the field. This last section was particularly slippery and quite a few fell in the mud. Needless to say the prize for coming in with clean legs/leggings was not claimed. In the women’s event Kay Neesam continued her fine form and in a similar scenario to the men broke away from the improving Anwen Darlington. Into the finish Kay was glad to get in without falling and her Team of New Marske was just beaten into second place behind Loftus And Whitby with Nicola Kent, Angharad Owen and Julia Jackson finishing
3, 4 & 5. In the men’s team event Knavesmire continued their show of strength pushing Esk Valley into second. Well done to Dan Middlemas who was the leading Veteran man and to Sue Haslam in her first race as a 60 year old spring chicken! Hope to see you in three weeks
