Fox and Hounds Fell Race Report and Results 2012

Well another clarty day with sleet and snow on the top and cold at about 2.degrees C. Without the windchill! More like January. However the field of hardy souls set off at the usual clatter. They soon seperated into two front groups of Tom Adams, Cameron Taylor and Paul Butler in the first trailed by James Channer then Ian Wellock, Jason Cavill and Ian McGrath in the second. They took an interesting route up Hannah’s Nick and it wasn’t until well down the field that the more usual route was followed. Again a few were off route at Stormy Hall having gone too high. With the road out of bounds this meant a rougher passage back onto the route. In the women’s event Caroline Lambert, Nicola Kent and Kay Neesam had a good tussle throughout the race with some interesting route choices! As the field crossed onto the last climb some runners managed to turn left towards Castleton and came the wrong way into the finish suffering a time penalty for their error as they did not visit the last check. In the finish Cameron was closing on the eventual winner Tom who went on to win some 16 seconds clear. Paul in third had to limp in with a damaged ankle but these theree were welll clear of the field. In the women’s Caroline L. eased away from Nicola in the last section with Kay third. The women’s team result was a tie for first on points between Loftus & Whitby and Pickering, with Esk Valley in third. In the men’s Esk Valley were the winners ahead of North York Moors.
