Eskdale Eureka Fell Race Results and Report 2017

Competitors in this years Eskdale Eureka Fell Race made the headlines when competitors in the race came across a couple of pensioners in difficulty just upstream of Hob Hole. The couple who were out walking got into difficulty as they crossed the local beck, when the male of the pair sunk up to his waist in boggy ground made extra soft by the thawing snow and recent rain.. Fortunately as they were struggling passing fell racers were able to extricate the gentleman from the bog and alert nearby members of the Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team who were marshalling the race to the situation. CMRT took the couple to the race registration at the Eskdale Inn where they dried off and recovered from their ordeal. Happily the couple were reunited with their vehicle parked at Hob Hole and were fit and able enough to return home almost none the worse for wear. In the tale of the tape, George Foster of Keswick AC claimed overall victory in a shade over 68 minutes with Stuart Grange of York Knavesmire second and Paul Lowe of Darlington Harriers third, in the womens race Kay Neesam New Marske harriers was victorious in an excellent 10th overall with Angharad Owen in second for Loftus and Whitby and Shelli Gordon, New Marske Harriers celebrating her birthday in style third. In the team event North Yorkshire Moors AC claimed both mens and womens team victories. The race proceeds from 118 competitors of £703 were donated to the Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team.
