Eskdale Eureka Fell Race Results 2013

The latest round of the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Winter Fell Race Series was the Eskdale Eureka on the 8th December. For the time of year it was a mild day with a fairly strong head wind for the first half of the race.Rain threatened but did not materialise. At the off there were a lot of cagoules being worn and the group surged away to splinter into a leading group of 10 at the first water crossing above Dibble Bridge. As they headed across the open moor towards Baysdale the men were now in a long line with Peter Bray, Jason Cavill & Paul Butler at the head of things. In the women Kay Neesam soon established a lead with Angharad Owen and Shelli Gordon in pursuit. Coming into Hob hole there were a lot of different routes into the ‘water splash.’ Peter Bray took the high road whilst Jason and others the lower but all to no avail as they ended up in the same positions on the road climb out. It was in the last section that Peter got a marginal lead on Jason. Esk Valley however spoiled the Durham Fell Runners party – led by debutant Paul Williams they managed to snatch the team award on countback. In the women Kay came in first but Angharad, in 2nd showed her improving form by being a little closer than in their last race, with Shelli also returning to full fitness in third New Marske Women were comfortable team winners from Scarborough and Loftus. Well done
to Pocklington who showed themselves to be the most improved team. In the overall team champs Esk Valley remain ahead of Knavesmire whilst in the women New Marske lead from Thirsk and Sowerby. See you over the holidays ……… Dave. Click here for results.

The next race in the series is Gisborough Woods Race on 27th December 2013
