Carlton Meander Fell Race Results 2012

Another very pleasant evening with a muggy feel at 20 degrees C. and overcast. The ground was wet from heavy showers in the preceeding weeks. As a first running of this event but with a course based on a race in the 1980’s the turn out was excellent. The main pack made a fast start but were soon slowed by the climb up to ‘Surprise View.’ This gave Cameron Taylor an opportunity to open up a gap and by the first check he was 30 seconds ahead of Andy Blackett, Ian Mcgrath and Nick Barber with Simon Greenwell just starting to close up on the chasers. In the women’s event Kay Neesam like Cameron soon opened up a gap on the first climb ahead of Shelli Gordon and Charlotte Edge. For Kay the race was not won yet and she had to be consistent in her efforts to stay away and maintain the gap. As they descended to the checkpoint before the finish Kay dug deep and came in a clear winner with Shelli second. Charlotte had some issue with traction on the wet grass and Ella Towers was closing her down in that final section.
Back to the men’s where Cameron went on to win comfortably but his club colleague Simon Greenwell came through the chasers for a well earned second place with Nick Andy and Ian finishing in that order. Men’s team was a comfortable win for Esk Valley with New Marske winning the women’s team. All race fees were given to Cleveland Search & Rescue Team amounting to £430. Thank you for your support on this fund raising event as you never know when you might need CS&RT’s help. ……Best wishes Dave Parry.
