Carlton Challenge Fell Race Results 2014

Well that was the start of the new Summer Series. A cool night but although cloudy the rain held off and gave us some excellent running conditions. There was a large field of 120 plus the one lonely Junior in the Under 12’s race, Adam Wanless was therefore the winner in 8.45. Back to the seniors the large pack wound its way over to the wood and gradually stretched out with Jim Bulman leading from Jack Willis. As the men’s race
progressed this pair stretched further away from their pursuers. As they approached the final Trig Point Jim had a lead of about 50 metres and some of the spectators thought it was all over. The short descent however requires a vault/leap and a run initially through deep heather. Jack took his chance and exploded past Jim about half way down the final descent to claim the race. Will Horsley finished a good third whilst Ken Maynard continued
his excellent form for fourth. In the women’s race it was a different story with Kay Neesam quickly moving ahead of the field and her club colleague, Shelli Gordon. Aly Raw worked hard at keeping up with Shelli but had to settle for an excellent third. Kay went on to win by a clear margin from
Shelli. In the teams Sunderland Strollers won the womens just ahead of New Marske and Northumberland Fell Runners finished just ahead of Esk Valley Fell Club in the men’s.
Hope to see you all in two weeks for the ‘Ossy’ …….. Dave
