Carlton Challenge Fell Race Results 2013

Race two in the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Summer Fell Race Series was the Carlton Challenge. On a night when we should have had downpours we got away with it and with 100
competitors plus juniors it was a hectic night at the finish. Thanks to Clare Lowe for giving
a hand. There were 6 main protagonists in the mens event over the first half of the
course. Once we started to climb on the Cleveland Way, ( the yellow brick road) runners
started to thin into more of a line. The winner on a slippy slow course was Peter Bray a
new name in the ‘winners enclosure’. Well done to him. He was pursued by Paul Butler
who could not quite get on terms. Paul however had the joy of leading the men’s team
winners in Loftus and Whitby with Esk Valley led by the returning Cameron Taylor in
second. Both Peter and Cameron are Junior Men so that bodes well for the future.
In the women’s event it was a familiar story over the last few years with Kay Neesam
showing she is now in control of these events finishing comfortably ahead of Lucy Butt
and a former winner Aly Raw. Lucy in fact is a Junior woman so that bodes well for DFR.
In the women’s team event it was a well supported Thirsk & Sowerby team led by Hester
Cox, that took the honours from Durham Fell Runners. It was good to see Aly & Pippa
Archer competing locally again. See you all at Lockton Village ….. best wishes Dave.
