Broughton Woods Wobble Fell Race Results 2013

It was a day that appeared very wintery with snow, ice and cold winds but most runners came in at the finish claiming to be warm and some overheated! The men’s race was a straight battle in the early stages between Ewan Brown, Jason Cavill, Will Horsley and Paul Butler with Ian McGrath and Chris Roberts not too far adrift. As the race turned from the moor above Beak Hills there were two main contenders Ewan and Jason with a small gap to the chasers. It was not until the latter stages that Ewan made a clean break to win. Ewan also led Knavesmire to a very convincing win in the team competition. In the Women’s event it was the New Marske trio of Kay Neesam, Shelli Gordon and Kath Aspin who led the way. There was no great surprise here when Kay established a good lead by the moorland section. She went on to win from Shelli by a clear margin.
The main battle was for third where Kath got away from the chasing group of Kim England, Chris Raw and Julia Jackson in the latter stages to give New Marske a 1,2,3 for a very comfortable team victory. The best veteran performances came from Norman Bush and Sue Haslam showing their younger counterparts how it is done. I hope the few cut knees are well healed for ‘Commondale’ which is a ‘North East Counties Championship Counter’ Best wishes …… Dave
