Broughton Woods Fell Race Results 2012

A pleasant night’s run with moderate temperatures and the constant threat of rain. Ground tended to be wet. It was a case of exercising the Wisdom of Solomon to sort this result out. We had to use photographic evidence from above Check Point Four. As a consequence some runners had 12 minutes added to their times and two had 20 minutes. The final result therefore will have to stand , which is the race committee decision. The only exception would be if I have not recorded someone at the finish although start and finish numbers tallied. The women should have first mention as they generally got the course right. Nicola Kent again turned in a very strong performance, to win from Kath Aspin, Charlotte Edge and Julia Jackson with Sue Haslam not far away. There was just a minute seperating the front five. In the team event Loftus and Whitby just held off very strong challenges from Esk Valley and Scarborough. If a few more women had run the result would have been quite different! In the men’s event Cameron James Taylor was a clear winner but what he thought when he was in 10th after Cold Moor and third into the finish I don’t know. But in the end Cameron was an easy winner with Dan Middlemas second and Damian Kilpin third despite a detour on the first moor. The men’s team event proved to be a very close affair with Esk Valley taking the honours due to better navigational skills and North York Moors finding that finding check points was the key. Best wishes and see you at Whorlton. Dave
