Blakey Blitz Fell Race Sunday 20th March

The next race in the Northern Runner/Esk Valley Winter Fell Race Series is the Blakey Blitz on Sunday 20th March. Registration is in the field next to the Lion Inn, Blakey Ridge, Near Ralph Cross, above Castleton, North Yorkshire (grid ref 678998). Entry is £6 on the day only and the event starts at 10.30 am. The route is about 10 miles long with nearly 3000 feet of ascent. Although you start of running down a long bridleway (and finish running back up it !). The course is best run in fell shoes or very grippy trail shoes as the tracks over the moors are often very muddy. Please carry fell kit as described in the FRA rules. It is very exposed on the North Yorkshire Moors and it would be easy to get very cold walking back to the start with a twisted ankle if you didn’t have any kit to put on. You should be carrying full waterproof cover (taped seams and a jacket with a hood), Hat and Gloves, Map , Compass, Whistle and an energy bar or gel. Click here to see a map of the course.
