Altra Torin 3.5 – A Quick Introduction
The new Torin 3.5 , Altra’s best selling road shoe, has been completely updated. There are now two uppers available. There is a mesh upper which is the more breathable more performance orientated upper and a knit upper which has a bit more stretch and a closer feel to it similar to the Altra Escalante.
Whichever version you choose the shoe offers the same high degree of cushioning. It is designed for those longer runs or runners doing lots of miles but, will also be liked by those who like a more cushioned feel in their shoes or want extra protection.
These fit small for Altra. If you are using the Lone Peak 3.5, Olympus 2.5 or any of the Neoshell boots/shoes then these are also small so try the same size. If you are using any other Altra shoes then we would suggest trying half a size larger.
As with all Altra shoes there is a Men’s and Women’s fit. As the shape of Men’s and Women’s feet are different. As you would expect with any Altra shoe the Torin 3.5 has a foot shaped toe box. This allows toes to relax and spread out naturally and the big toe to remain in a straight position for more comfort, speed and stability.
The Torin 3.5 also has Inner-flex. These are grid-like flex grooves in the midsole to allow your foot to flex where it needs to. Coupled with Altra’s Footpod Technology which maps the foots bones and tendons so that it can flex properly for more speed and improved performance. Which makes the shoe fairly flexible considering it’s 28mm stack height. Altra have positioned A-Bound cushioning directly under the foot to reduce ground impact and add a spring to each step.
All Altra shoes are zero drop or flat. This is to place your heel and forefoot the same distance from the ground to encourage better posture and therefore a more natural low impact style of running. If you have been wearing shoes with a high heel (most shoes have a 12mm difference between the height of the heel and the height of the forefoot) then it is advisable to gradually increase the time you spend in the shoes alternating with your old shoes.
