The latest round of the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Winter Fell Race Series was the Guisborough 3 Tops. This was run over the slightly modified course that will be used for the English Fell Running Championship Counter in September. It was a beautiful day for running. The ground was generally firm and the temperature was the warmest of the spring so far. The new course needed testing before we use it for The English Championship Race. True to form runners did not run on their map information but followed others like headless chickens so much so that even though they knew they had gone wrong they persisted on that route. Let’s concentrate on the day’s performances. Cameron Taylor having marked the course the previous day was completely familiar with it. He set off to break away at the start and ran a fantastic time to set the new record at 71.35. This helped his team Esk Valley to win the team event. In the women’s times were slow because the winner Kay Neesam and her club colleague in second had to go back over to reach a missed check which added about 10 minutes to their times. New Marske went on to win the team event. In the overall Winter Team event Esk Valley are in a virtually unbeatable position in the men’s with York Knavesmire just behind. In the women’s there is a very tight situation with any of 3 teams able to win with two events to go:- Pickering, North York Moors and Esk Valley. Click here to see the full results.
Don’t forget the next event, Broughton Woods Wobble is next week and starts at the earlier time of 9.30a.m. Registration open at 8.00a.m. In the overall individual Chris Roberts is the Winter Men’s Champion with other sections being close. In the women it can still go any way in the last two events..
