The latest race in the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Winter Fell Race Series was the Broughton Woods Wobble the report is below:

Another exhilerating run with some snow and strong wind on the top, but nothing too bad at start/finish level. A great run by Charlie Stead in the men’s – it rolled back the clock a few years as Charlie charged round the course pursued by Jason Cavill, Bronwen Owen
and Chris Roberts. At the end there was very little between the front four although Charlie had managed to extend a short lead in the final very muddy section. The run of the day however was by the Female winner Bronwen Owen who challenged for the overall lead and in finishing third overall there weren’t many men she did not beat. As a consequence of such an excellent run she took about 8 minutes off the course record in a fantastic 42:05 in very muddy conditions. Kay Neesam in second continues to lead the rankings this winter and with the support of Helen Whitney and Shelli Gordon
took the team honours, for New Marske. In the men Esk Valley were clear winners through excellent packing of the whole team led
by Mike Quinn. Esk Valley continue to head the winter Team Rankings, with Knavesmire putting up a
strong challenge. In the juniors winners were:- F10 Ella Mochrie, Esk Valley; M10 Matthew Clark, Esk Valley; M12 Holden Outhwaite; F14 Oriana Larkin; M14 James Somers, F16 Lois Scott
with Matthew Somers a good second in the M12.
Hope to see you at Commondale ( please note some times have been rounded off as I dropped the new computer damaging the mechanism- apologies.) …………. Dave (Click here for results)

It was good to see Shaun Scott (ex Northumberland Fell Runner and holder of a few records back in the late 1990’s) back running and just managing to stay in front of his 14 year old daughter !
