Test driving the new Inov8 Bare Grip 200

Inov8 have an advert that shows a runner’s foot with studs stuck to the bottom, pushing off over a piece of moorland. The tag line is something about, ‘until evolution catches up there is the Inov8 Mudclaw’. Well perhaps Inov8 has got a little closer to the picture with the Inov8 Bare Grip 200. Essentially this shoe is a mesh upper with a sticky rubber studded outsole attached. It is so flexible that you could tie it in a knot.

The fit is great; there is no restriction at all. The feel for the ground, as you would expect, is superb. This makes the shoe gripier on mud as your feet respond to every slip and slide. Tussock grass is easy as there is no stiff midsole to throw you foot in one direction or the other. The forefoot running style, that you naturally adopt in these shoes, makes even hard cobbled bridleways a pleasure to run on.

Whether you want to run barefoot or just want a shoe of this type to strengthen your feet and ankles, the Inov8 Bare Grip 200 is a winner !
