Guisborough Woods Race

The Next round of the Northern Runner/Eskdale Valley Winter Fell Race Series is Guisborough Woods on Monday 27th December 11am Start. Registration is at Guisborough Rugby Club. It is a short jog from here to the forestry where the race starts and finishes. Essentially the race is 3 Laps of a mainly wooded loop made up of forestry track and muddy single track. The highlights of the route is the climb up through and old quarry which is just about runable (on the first lap) and the single track descent through the trees at the end of each lap.

I know many races have been canceled due to snow but, looking at the history books this race is likely to go ahead (assuming Dave can get to Guisborough to start it). I have run it several times in deep snow and ice. I remember on one occasion when Marco Cara (then running for Mandale Harriers) turned up in spikes and on a day when the whole descent was sheet ice won by a considerable distance. So, if it’s icey bring your spikes. I also remember trudging through mud calf deep on other years. So, if the snow melts maybe you should bring your wellies too !

Whatever happens this is a challenging event not to miss.
