Carlton Challenge Fell Race Report and Results 2011

What a fantastic start to The Summer Series. It was a little cool but no snow this year. A record turnout for this event. The largest female entry for a summer series event. Congratulations to Esk Valley who finished a women’s team for the first time! In the men’s race Will Horsley was a clear winner with a little to spare. You can tell when Will is serious he leaves the dog behind!! Gary Webb in second turned in another sparkling performance as leading veteran at ’50’ Charlie Stead looks to have regained a bit of fitness coming in third. In fourth and fifth position there was an excellent dual for first ‘Junior’ with Jonathan Baines just heading Cameron Taylor although Cameron is two years younger. In the Women’s Event Kay Neesam continued her form of the late winter with an excellent performance to win from Nicola Kent and Hester Butterworth. All three also competing in the F40 Category. Hester had a lot of consolation however by leading her Scarborough team to victory in the women’s team competition, with Durham Fell runners and Quakers a little behind. The men’s team event was a tight affair where Cameron Taylor was the lead runner in an Esk Valley victory with North York Moors and York Acorn providing excellent opposition. Hope to see you at Lockton Village …. Dave
