Over the weekend of the weekend 19th and 20 th September over one hundred teams took up the challenge of the Mourne Mountain Marathon. The next race in the Northern Runner/Esk Valley Summer Fell Race Series is the Castleton Show Race on Saturday 12th September 1.30pm start. This race is dubbed as a fell race on the road. 6 miles in length and all on the black stuff this races does go up and down a bit. Entries on the day. A beautiful summers day with a gentle breeze. It was very tight at the front of the men’s race with a lot of minor changes through the race. Pete Vale and Lloyd Taggart were pressured by Ted Mason, followed by the Calder trio of Tim Ellis, Darren Kay and Karl Gray. Matthew Roberts in fact led for much of the race but had unfortunately missed a check point at the end of the short loop.
