The latest round of the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Winter Fell Race Series was a cool start at about 4 degrees C. The race soon warmed up however with the sun coming out and Esk Valley’s Cameron Taylor off to a flyer. He was pursued by his club colleague Paul Williams then a large group very soon in a small line consisting of Simon Rycroft, Simon Jones, Tom Ratcliffe and Darren Fishwick. The next race in the Northern Runner Esk Valley Winter Fell Race Series is Blakey Blitz on Sunday 22nd May 2015. This is a tough race 17km with 855 metres of ascent. Don’t be fooled by the downhill start, you run back up the same hill to get to the finish and it’s a long drag. Registration is at the Lyon Inn above Castleside, Nr Guisborough on the North Yorkshire Moors (Grid 678998). The fun starts at 10.30am and entry costs £6. Road races in the beautiful Langdale Valley have been run for nearly thirty years and in that time many thousands of runners of all standards have enjoyed the stunning location of the races while completing their chosen distance. 10k competitors enjoy an undulating road course out and back along the Langdale Valley taking in the villages of Chapel Stile and Elterwater along with the stunning scenery all along the valley. A windy but clear day, a little overcast although slightly wet underfoot, generally good running conditions was what greeted runners for the latest round of the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Winter Fell Race Series.
