The North East did well at the Inter Counties Fell Running held in Settle last weekend. Jack Willis won the under 16 men’s and Nick Swinburn came home 2nd to lead Andrew Blackett, Lee Bennett and Gary Jones to a 6th place in the team event. Click here for the full results.
The opening hours at Northern Runner for the forthcoming Bank Holiday weekend are as follows: Saturday 25th May – 9.00am – 5.30pm Sunday 26th May – CLOSED Bank Holiday Monday 27th May – 11.00am – 4.00pm Then, normal opening hours will resume.
The next race in the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Summer Fell Race Series is the Levisham Limping Fell Race on Sunday 26th May 2013. The fun starts at 10.30m am from Lockton Village Hall, Near Pickering, North Yorkshire (grid ref 846900). Entry is on the day only and is £6. The run is 11.2km with 330 metres ascent. This years Gibside Trail Race will take place on Sunday 20th October at 9.30am. The course is 6 miles or so of mixed underfoot conditions and ‘isn’t flat’. The route is very scenic and passes all the landmarks in the Gibside Chapel Estate which is a National Trust property. This is a very popular event which usually fills up quickly. Race two in the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Summer Fell Race Series was the Carlton Challenge.On a night when we should have had downpours we got away with it and with 100 competitors plus juniors it was a hectic night at the finish. Thanks to Clare Lowe for giving a hand. There were 6 main protagonists in the mens event over the first half of the course. Having sold out of places within weeks of taking entries Ultimate Trails have announced 100 more places for their 100km and 50km Trail Ultra’s held in the Lake District on the 14th and 15th September. If you are upto the challenge then click here to grab one of the few remaining places.
Thanks to John Taylor for pictures from the Fox and Hounds which was the first race in the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Summer Fell Race. The nest race is the Carlton Challenge on Wednesday 15th May, 7.15pm start from Carlton Bank Top, Near Stoksley. It’s 5 miles long with a bit of up and down.
Rob Hope (Pudsey and Bramley)made a return to form to win the first round of the English Fell Running Championships on Saturday at the Fairfield Horseshoe narrowly beating the 2011 British Champion Morgan Donnelly. Morgan, an ex Northumberland Fell Runner, was first over 40 veteran to finish. The Women’s ce was won by Victoria Wilkinson of Bingley Harriers. She was well clear of the oposition.
