Park Run comes to South Shields on Saturday 20th April 2013

South Shields will be welcomed into the parkrun family this Saturday (20 April) as it prepares to stage its inaugural event. Taking place in The Leas, the South Shields event will become the north east’s 14th parkrun. Starting at the promenade next to Gypsies Green stadium and the Sand Dancer pub, the course follows a scenic coastal path until the marshalled turnaround point. Bland and Fines win the first British Championship Fell Race of 2013

Gavin Bland(Borrowdale FR) and Helen Fines (Calder Valley FR) were the winners of the opening race of the British Championship at Silent Valley in the Mourne Mountain in Northern Ireland. Top fell runners from across Britain were competing in the 10 mile event which climbed 3 peaks in a circuit from Silent Valley. Bland, from the famous Bland fell running dynasty in the Lake District, was in the lead as he charged off Slieve Binnian. Gisborough Moors Fell Race 2013

The final race in the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Winter Fell Race Series 2012/13 is the North Yorkshire Moors classic Gisborough Moors Race. The Moors race has been going for over 30 years and this year has support from Salomon and Northern Runner. The event starts at the Rugby Club in Guisborough and climbs up through the forestry onto the moor heading for the first peak of the route, Captain Cooks Monument. Pinchinthorpe Fell Race 2013

It was an excellent day for running. The ground was very fast going as it has dried out a lot in the past week. With 11 juniors in the lower age group races there was plenty of competition to be had.
