The next race in the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Winter Fell Race Series is the Glaisdale Rigg Fell Race on Sunday 3rd March. The race starts at 10.30 am from outside the Arnecliffe Arms in Glaisdale on the North Yorkshire Moors. The 8 mile route has about 1500 feet of ascent and goes over a variety of terrain. The Pier to Pier race is one of the more popular runs in the North of England with around 1000 entries each year. The race Starts on the beach at South Shields Pier and follows the beach and coastal footpaths to finish about 7 miles later at the Pier on Roker Beach in Sunderland. Entry forms are also available in Northern Runner in Newcastle.
An interesting race with fantastic weather for this time of year. Despite two other local events nearly 130 runners turned up to contest the ‘Clart.’ The course had dried out a lot in the last few days to regain it’s clart status, otherwise it would have been wading in your wellies! The race is about 6 miles long with 1000 feet of ascent and starts at 10.30am from outside the Cleveland Inn in Commondale on the North Yorkshire Moors.
