A new course due to logging meant that records were up for grabs. The weather was fairly mild with odd showers and a bit of mist at high levels. This years Captain Cooks Fell Race will as usual take place on New Years Day. The race starts at 11am from outside the Royal Oak on the High Green in Great Ayton, North Yorkshire. The newly crowned North East Cross Country Champion, Andrew Wiles, lead New Marske Harriers to the first four places at Sundays Loftus Poultry Run. Conditions where near perfect a complete contrast to the cold icey conditions experienced just days before. The ladies was won by Sunderland Stroller Alison Dixon. Click here for full results.

The registration is at Guisborough Rugby Club and entry is on the day only. Click here to view the new course for both the Junior and Senior Races. This is due to the wet weather and forestry work churning up the paths on the old course.

The latest event in the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Winter Fell Race Series produced some real winter weather with thick ice the biggest problem on route. A lot of runners came in with scraped knees from slipping on the downhills. The best going was often in the heather with a better foot hold.
