Another good day at the races. We had had 3 inches of snow on the previous day turning to wintry sleet which made the going very muddy especially on the final descent. Winter kit must be carried by all competitors please consult the list or if in doubt contact me. We did have mild hypothermia suffered by the marshalls at the last check despite being well equipped with a tent etc. A cagoule in itself is not sufficient to protect competitors should they suffer a serious fall etc. In the... Lorna Young of Heaton Harriers was a clear winner of the Ladies race at this years Gibside Trail Race. Her time of 38.04 put her only 2 minutes 25 seconds behind the lead men. A great run on a sunny mild day. The Men’s Race was a bit more competitive with only 20 seconds seperating the top 4 places. The third race in the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Winter Fell Race Series is Sunday’s Guisborough Three Tops. This is catagorised as an A Medium so it is a tough race of 13 km with 655 metres of ascent. Registration is at Guisborough Rugby Club and the race starts at 10.30am. Click here for a map of the route which takes you over High Cliffe Nab, Roseberry Topping and Hanging Stone. With the current weather it goes without saying that parts of the course will be a little sticky.

Another good day for running with mild conditions and running being wet to boggy! 88 stalwarts set out and 88 finished . Paul Butler back to form and fitness set off at a fast pace and by the Tower was leading with Luke Maude, Dan Middlemas and Jayson Cavill in pursuit.
