Shane Ohley, organiser of the Dragon’s Back Race has announced that there are now 15 more places available on the event this September (2-8). This is the result of further negotiations with landowners along the 200+ mile course and by taking into account the inevitable last minute withdrawals. Click through for more details on an Ultra Trail Race around Ennerdale in the English Lake District on the 21st October 2012. If 50km is a bit ambitious then there is also a 25km and 10km event.

The Transvulcania Ultramarathon is part of the Skyrunner World Series it takes place in the Canary Islands. Over 500 competitors, including several world champion runners, take on 8500 metres of climbing from the sea to the sky on an 85 km course that includes both the stunning Atlantic coast and the summits of La Palma’s volcanoes.
The next race in the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Summer Fell Race Series is a new race on Wednesday 27th June at 7.15 pm. The start/finish and registration is on Carlton Bank Top. The race is 5 miles long with 1000 feet of ascent. Entry is £6 on the night only.
A very pleasant summer’s night in between the buckets of rain. We finally had a dry race with sunshine. This was a very fast paced race with the leaders soon opening up a sizeable lead with the first seven men still in contention at the old quarry climb. At the top of the wood however before the descent James Bulman, Cameron Taylor and Lewis Rodgers had managed to break with Paul Butler now losing a bit of ground. Elswick Harriers host the annual Newburn River Run on Wednesday 20th June with a 7.30pm start. The approximately 6.5 mile race has established itself as one of the most popular local races on the summer calendar. The race is a mixture of road then trail, crossing the Tyne at Wylam before heading back and over the Newburn Bridge and along to the finish. Runners will be pleased to know that there will be a free post-race buffet and are assured of a friendly atmosphere and well organised event.
