Race 3 in the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Summer Fell Race Series is the Ossy Oiks. This race is on Wednesday 30th May starting at 7.15pm from Outside Church, Near Arncliffe Woods, Ingleby Cross, Ingleby Arncliffe. The new course is 5.3 miles long with 1834 feet of ascent. It was a cool night but despite rain earlier the going was still quite firm and fast. At the start it was Dan Middlemas with a little local knowledge who shot off into an early lead. After a couple of Km he was caught by Paul Butler and Stuart Carmichael with Cameron Taylor in fourth at this stage. The Pier to Pier race is one of the more popular runs in the North of England with around 1000 entries each year. The race Starts on the beach at South Shields Pier and follows the beach and coastal footpaths to finish about 7 miles later at the Pier on Roker Beach in Sunderland. Summer Series is underway with more winter weather, boggy on the bottom section cold misty conditions tended to slow the runners down. In the men’s field there were 7 runners away before they got to the first woodland corner. Jim Bulman, Cameron Taylor, Nick Barber, Andy Blackett, Ian McGrath, Dan Middlemas and Will Horsley.
