This years Blakey Blitz was run on a lovely clear sunny day. New Marskes Kay Neesam added to her Glaisdale Rigg victory will an excellent run on the tough course covering the 10.5 miles with over 2500 feet of ascent in 98 minutes 45 seconds. Cameron Taylor (Esk Valley) also added to his Glaisdale Rigg victory in another course record of 79 minutes 6 seconds. The 30th Greggs Children’s Cancer run will take place on Sunday 13th May 2012. The Children’s Cancer Run is a 5-mile cross country family fun run set up to raise money for the North of England Children’s Cancer Research Fund (NECCR), and is sponsored by Greggs. A great day is always had come rain or shine, with lots of entertainment, as well as medals, a free t-shirt and Greggs picnics for all participants.
The Blakey Blitz Fell Race starts next to the Lyon Inn on top of Blakey Ridge. This is a wild exposed place the perfect location for a testing fell race. Blakey Blitz is the next round of the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Winter Fell Race Series. It is 12.5 miles long with about 2600 feet of ascent. A downhill starts gives you a great uphill finish. The latest round of the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Winter Fell Race Series brought spring sunshine to the village of Glaisdale on the North Yorkshire Moors. Kay Neesam continued her good form to win the Women’s race. The New Marske veteran cover the 8.5 miles with 1750 feet of ascent in 71 minutes 24 seconds. The Pier to Pier race is one of the more popular runs in the North of England with around 1000 entries each year. The race Starts on the beach at South Shields Pier and follows the beach and coastal footpaths to finish about 7 miles later at the Pier on Roker Beach in Sunderland. If your looking for a fun event to have a go at this summer then why not get along to the Hedley on the Hill Race. The race takes place annually, through fields and finishes at the Feathers Inn, its only about a mile but it is a steep hill. Teams of three carry an empty beer barrel which is not heavy so much as cumbersome, we recommend people wear gloves. The race is on Bank Holiday Monday 9th April at 1pm.
