We had booked the weather which was pleasant although a little overcast. Paul Butler again shot out of the stalls like a greyhound and by the climb up Green Hill was comfortably in the lead being chased by a small group involving Charlie Stead, James Wilson and Cameron Taylor. Please note that the Forest Burn fell race scheduled for Sunday 14th August has had to be postponed. The show with which it is associated has been cancelled due to waterlogged fields, so parking is impossible and therefore the race has been postponed. It is hoped that there will be some alternative festivities arranged later in the year and the fell race will be scheduled to coincide with these and I will provide details as soon as I have them. We where lucky with the weather again for the latest round of the Northern Runner/Eskdale Valley Summer Fell Race Series. It was a lovely warm dry clear night in Guisborough tonight. Paul Butler (Loftus and Whitby AC) took full avantage of the conditions and lead from start to finish to win in a new course record of 47 minutes and 2 seconds. 2 Minutes in front of Northumberland Fell Runners Charlie Stead who was second man home. Ben Abdulnoor (Ambleside AC) an ex Northumberland Fell Runner won the Borrowdale Fell Race on Saturday by less than 20 seconds from Ellenborough’s Ricky Lightfoot with Carl Bell ((Howgill Harriers) who won the Cock Howe and Beyond round of the Northern Runner/Eskdale Valley Summer Fell Race Series) less than a minute behind him. The next race in the Northern Runner/Eskdale Valley Summer Fell Race Series is the Guisborough Grunt on Tuesday 9th August 2011 7.15pm start. The race is 8 miles long with 1200 feet of ascent. Most of the climb is done in one go up High Cliffe Nab a real leg wobbler.
Northern runner staff member Drew and his friend Ben will be tackling the 24.5 mile Yorkshire 3 peak challenge this Sunday.
