Carlton Challenge Fell Race Report and Results 2011

What a fantastic start to The Summer Series. It was a little cool but no snow this year. A record turnout for this event. The largest female entry for a summer series event. Congratulations to Esk Valley who finished a women’s team for the first time! In the men’s race Will Horsley was a clear winner with a little to spare. Opening Times

Northern Runner’s Newcastle shop will be open as follows over the coming Bank Holiday weekend: Friday 29th April 11am to 4pm Saturday 30th April 9am to 5.30pm Sunday 1st May Closed Monday 2nd May 11am to 4pm After which opening times will revert back to normal.

Keswick 1/2 Marathon Sunday 1st May 2011

If your looking for a challenging but, enjoyable 1/2 marathon then Keswick is the one. It’s a supper popular race for runners from the North East with many clubs and gyms sending buses across. The race is ‘undulating’ at the start but, finishes round Derwentwater but, is a touch less hilly. For more details click here.

Will kicks Ass at Carlton Challenge Fell Race

Will Horsley from Northumberland Fell Runners showed everyone the way home in the first event in the Northern Runner/Eskdale Valley Summer Fell Race Series. Conditions where cool, dry and clear ideal for running. It was good to see such a large turn out for the first event. Traveling from Newcastle and leaving after the shop as shut I am usually the last to arrive and park in the last spot on the grass verge. Northumberland Ultra

Adventure Hub are organising the first Northumberland Ultra on 27th August 2011. The race is 62 miles or 100km in new money.A tough and challenging circular course of climbs, woodland and open moor taking in stretches of the Pennine Way. Though well marked runners will need a limited degree of navigational skill based on the detailed route cards that are issued. This is a spectacular route with a feeling of real adventure and isolation. Click here for more information.

Wasdale Fell Race

Maybe your looking for a challenge this summer. Maybe you are thinking of taking on ‘Wasdale’ the long fell race in the FRA calendar with the most ascent. This years race is on Saturday 9th July and is 21 miles long with 9000 feet of ascent. The race does a circuit of the hills around Wasdale.
