Northern Runner Fell Race Series Race 2
Tuesday 29 April 2008

The second race in the Northern Runner Summer Fell Series is the Lordstones Race. This is the same course that was used for the 2006 English Championships so you can come and challenge the course records of top fell runners Rob Jebb (Bingley) and Natalie White (Bingley). The 8 mile course has over 2,000 feet of ascent making it a tough A catagory fell race. The course is a bit different to the norm finishing up what is for most people a walking climb.

The race takes place on Sunday 11th May 2008, 10.30 am start from Carlton Bank Top. For a map of the course and a course description click the link.

Tuesday 15 April 2008

Charlie Stead of Northumberland Fell Runners and Northern Runner won the Classic Gisborough Moors Race for the 5th time on Sunday. This was more wins than Middlesborough's Steve Sutcliffe who won the race on four occasions in the 1980's and still holds the course record. Charlie recorded his first win in 1998 not winning again until 2004 and then won in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Charlie won in a slow winning time of 86 minutes for the 12.5 miles course with 2400 feet of ascent. The time reflecting the muddy conditions over the moors which was knee deep in places. He was chased all the way by Dan Middlesmass (Loftus AC) who also chased Charlie to a course record at the Eston Nab Knee Nocker the previous month. Northumberland Fell Runners finished first team.

The Ladies Race was won by Laura Clark (Valley Striders) who was brought up in Gisborough and returned to visit her parents and have a second go at the Classic Race.
