A fabulous day with bright sunshine and a cool breeze meant the ground was drying out after some heavy rain. The usual charge accompanied the start. By the ‘Folly’ things had thinned out a little with 3 runners away in the men’s race followed by another three. In the women’s race Annabel Mason was just ahead of a group of women in a line mixed in with the men. Once the men descended the first ravine and crossed the railway line Matthew Hayes had the lead from Simon Jones and Chris Roberts. Annabel now had a lead of about a minute and went on to extend this to over two minutes at the finish. Sue Haslam came on strongly in the second half to finish second ahead of Caroline Warrington. In the men’s race however things turned around with Matthew missing the next turn in the forestry to leave Chris Roberts and Simon Jones to fight it out for the victory with Simon winning by putting in a very strong last two miles from Saltergate Bank Top. Chris however was able to lead his men’s team to victory over the consistent Esk Valley team just ahead of Pickering.
In the women’s Team event Pickering were overall winners ahead of Thirsk and North York Moors. See you at the next event C.B.West and don’t forget there are a bonus fifty points to be gained if you contribute to any race organisation in the series. This is a one off bonus. You can marshal again but 50points are only awarded once. …. Best wishes ….. Dave. Click here for results.
