We were blessed enough with the weather, as much of N.Yorks suffered from flooding but we had a sunny day with a light breeze. The day before was a different story with torrential rain so whereas the course was muddy it had drained a lot in 24 hours!
On the first lap of three there were three principal contenders in Aidan Rigby of New Marske, David Beech of Northumberland Fell Runners and Paul Lowe, a previous winner on a number of occasions, not separated by much. Just behind them were Chris Roberts – Knavesmire and Andrew Lake – Esk Valley. As the race developed Aidan was
able to eak out a lead and at the finish was a clear winner.
The team prize was won by Hartlepool Burn Road Harriers who were well packed and pushed out Esk Valley into second with N.York Moors AC. third. In the women’s event it was a contest between the other half of the Rigby family in Alice Rigby who lead her club colleagues Shelli Gordon and Kath Aspin to give New Marske Harriers a one two, three in the race and therefore a comfortable team win. Alice and Aidan are both juniors in ‘senior’ terms and it was a pleasure to see young people coming through to assert themselves in this way – well done.
There was a very large turn out for this event so consequently the finish was very busy for the finish marshalls. If you find any errors please let me know parrydavid5@gmail.com. See you on New Year’s Day …….. Dave Parry.
……………………… P.S. no one won the clean shoes/legs award!
