A new course due to logging meant that records were up for grabs. The weather was fairly mild with odd showers and a bit of mist at high levels. After the first lap both races had taken a firm pattern. In the men’s James Bulman was just ahead of Paul Butler with a pack of about six athletes some 15 seconds or so behind them. In the women’s event Catherine Williamson had established a good lead of about a minute over Kay Neesam with Nicola Kent just behind Kaye. At the finish Jim held off a strong challege from Paul gaining ground on the descent and finish to finish just 16 seconds ahead. After this the men were gently spaced out with breathing room only between them down to about 12th position. In the women Catherine had a comfortable victory with Kay and Nicola finishing in second and third. Indeed Catherine went on to lead her team of Nicola and Angharad Owen to a very narrow victory over New Marske H made up from Kaye, Shelli Gordon and Kath Aspin.
In the men’s team event York Knavesmire gained the win with excellent packing to beat North York Moors and the current ‘Team Competition’ leaders Esk Valley. Knavesmire were well led by Josh Beech and Chris Roberts. The first Under 20 man was Tom Hodgson of Esk Valley – an excellent Team competition here the best of the season. I have some kit handed in – two pairs of running shoes and one pair of ‘black bottoms. See you New Year’s day at Great Ayton for our Christmas/New Year’s Charity Event …. Best wishes … Dave.
