Another brilliant day’s racing ont’ Moor.’ In the men’s race there was a competitive race between four men:- Mike Fanning, Charlie Stead, Cameron Taylor and Matt Hayes. They were all within range of each other with Mike taking a lead at Roseberry Common. By the time they reached Hanging Stone Mike had a substantial lead with the chasing three still in touch with each other. At the Trig Mike had a lead of 38 seconds with Charlie in second some 25 secs ahead of Cameron and Matt. Matt just managed to ease ahead of Cameron on the final descent so they finished in that order. In the women’s event Kay Neesam, Karen Hallas and Nicola Kent were the front three. Kay managed to acquire a good lead at The Roseberries with Karen and Nicola not too far adrift. At H.S. Kay had a comfortable lead from Karen but Karen fought back to the Trig where she had reduced the gap to 21 secs. In the final descent Kay dropped like a stone and opened the gap to a full minute to win comfortably in the end with Nicola also making a spirited descent in third. In the team event New Marske led by Kay just held off Loftus and Whitby with Durham FR just one point behind in third. In the Men’s Team race Esk Valley made it three wins in a row ahead of North York Moors and Durham FR. The biggest surge of the day came from Richard Bewell who moved up from 15th at Roseberry to finish 6th (not counting Simon Greenwell who missed the start but still managed 20th) Hope to see you all at Clay Bank in two weeks …. Dave
