Not a bad window in the weather with plenty of gusts and a bit of hail up at the trig point. Generally however fairly warm and not one runner failed to finish. The start was hectic and there was a whole throng together on the first ascent. It soon narrowed down to about 10 competitors in the men’s with Jason Cavill and Paul Darroch not amongst those at this point. It would have been difficult to record numbers as the field entered the moor by Highcliff Gate. At Roseberry the two Durham Fell Runners Andy Blackett and Peter Bray had the lead with another group some 50 metres off the pace lead by Paul Butler. Kay Neesam in the women’s event was comfortably in the lead at this point and wasn’t far away from the two leading groups. As they approached Hanging Stone things began to change with the pursuers coming within a very short distance of the leaders. On the open moor Peter started to move away at the front and Paul moved up into second spot. It was now that Jason Cavill moved up from 11th to 4th and Paul Darroch from late teens to 8th. Kay continued to dominate ahead of Helen Cross and Rhona Haslam. Kay went on to win in a new record which was just as well as Helen also broke the old one. New Marske went on to win the women’s team. In the men’s Peter nearly ruined his chances with an error on the descent but managed to correct this and hold off Paul. Jason came through into third. The men’s team was won by Durham Fell Runners.
