In the 20 year history of the Dave Parry Fell Race Series there has been two previous fell races held from the Sutton Bank Visitors Centre. The Sutton Bank Slither and the White Horse Wander both had to be stopped due to problems with dogs on the route or access to the land. Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers have worked hard with the land owners to put together an exciting new route that brings fell racing back to this lovely part of the North Yorkshire Moors.
The Gormire Gamble is the second event in the Dave Parry Winter Fell Race Series and will take place on Sunday 15th October at 11am. Entry is £5 on the day only and registration is at the Sutton Bank Visitors Centre from around 9.30am. The route is about 6.8 miles long with 1400 feet or so of ascent. A large part of the ascent will be done grovelling your way back upto the visitors centre from Lake Gormire. On a clear day the view of the Vale of York from the top of Sutton Bank is breath taking.
The race is open to all. If you ran the first race in the series, Lockton Limping, then bring your race number a long as you are already registered.
