It was another excellent day’s racing with temperatures above average, a bit muddy but otherwise good. In the men’s race Cameron Taylor soon sped to the front with a chasing file of runners including Jim Bulman and Nigel Tate with Chris Jeffries and Dave Smith in close attendance being split by the leading woman Bronwen Owen. The front three had established a 20sec. break by the top of the first climb onto Cold Moor but by now Cameron had a decent lead and the others led by Jim were chasing. Bronwen at this point was a clear leader mixing it with the men in 4th to seventh places. Bronwen on the other hand was now nearly four minutes ahead of Kay Neesam and her club colleague and fellow junior Charlotte Edge. Cameron went on to win with Dave Smith coming through on route choice and effort to second. Bronwen went on to win in an excellent time of 33.23 which was close to Rosie Smith’s course record. The closest race of the day was in the M50; Julian Barwick finishing just ahead of Lawrence Johnson with Anthony Harnett close behind. In the team event Nigel Tate’s efforts proved fruitful with Durham Fell runners just edging out Esk Valley Fell club. In the women’s team New Marske Harriers were clear winners ahead of Scarborough, Wetherby and Pickering. Don’t forget the change to the start and registration for the Eskdale Eureka. Best wishes Dave
