Report and results from the Carlton Midsummer Meander which was the latest round of the Northern Runner/ Esk Valley Summer Fell Race Series. Click here for the results.

A great night for running not too hot but a strong breeze particularly on the North facing descent to The Scout Hut. It was a long line of runners up to Surprise View and across to Drakes Howe. By this time the serious contenders were all within 20 seconds of the lead. On the long descent Paul Williams and Cameron E. Taylor were starting to break away with slightly different initial lines. In the women’s event Kay Neesam now had a 20 second lead over Ali Raw at this point. It was the long haul up from the Scout Hut that separated them out with Paul establishing a good lead over Cameron and Kay doing the same to Ali. At Surprise View for the second time it was noticeable how many runners were distracted by the tracks to the right and a number retraced their steps back on to the main track which was more obvious lower down. Paul went on to win with Cameron second a good one two for Esk Valley. Kay equally went on to win in an excellent 37.30. In the team event York Knavesmire took the honours led by Chris Roberts with North York Moors and Esk Valley right behind. In the women’s team event there were no complete teams! We raised £390.00 in aid of Cleveland Mountain Rescue so well done to all who participated. See you at Cock Howe and Beyond! ……. Best wishes .. David
