Summer Series is underway with more winter weather, boggy on the bottom section cold misty conditions tended to slow the runners down. In the men’s field there were 7 runners away before they got to the first woodland corner. Jim Bulman, Cameron Taylor, Nick Barber, Andy Blackett, Ian McGrath, Dan Middlemas and Will Horsley. By the Angel’s staircase Jim had a short lead with the others strung in a line. Cameron was now making an effort to catch Jim but got away from the following group (only just) without making a gain. In the mist local knowledge or safe strategy came into play and this following group were broken up. At the trig Jim was now a clear leader with Cameron in second and Nick third. This remained to the finish. At presentation because we were about to be benighted there was not time to work out team results so congratulations to Loftus & Whitby led by Dan well ahead of Esk Valley and North York Moors. In the women’s event we continued to see a duel between Kay Neesam and Nicola Kent. Kay declared that she had got her blood levels sorted out and it showed in her performance where she led all the way after the early groupings. Nicola ran strongly in second with Shelli Gordon a comfortable third In the veteran women it was the wise head of Sue Haslam who navigated well in 4th. Well done to New Marske for winning the women’s team and first place in the men’s individual, Don’t forget that a number of events this summer are new or have slightly shortened routes so they are sub 10K allowing 16 & 17 year olds to run. Levisham is a case in point with the start shortened..
