Northern Runner/NEHRA Winter Series 2015-16

It was again excellent running conditions for The Captain Cook’s New Years Day Race. We had had a good frost overnight which made it less muddy following torrential downpours. There were four principal contenders in Harry Holmes, Chris Roberts, PaulLowe and Lloyd Biddell with Sam Garratt and Jason Cavill just behind. This group pulled away on the first big climb up to the monument where advantage goes to those who know the fastest line of descent. Now it was a speed session to the finish whereHarry Holmes was able to throw off former winner Paul with Chris just behind then Lloyd. The first junior man was Sam in 5th.
The winning men’s team was York Knavesmire ahead of Loftus and Whitby. In the women’s event Caroline Lambert made all the going. She had a good lead at Captain Cook’s Monument over Catherine Williamson and Sharon Bulman. Caroline went on toa comfortable win. New Marske Harriers were the winners of the women’s team event ahead of Elvet Striders and Loftus & Whitby.
As this is a charity event all of the £2108 raised goes to charity. £150 to Gt. Ayton Library, £200 to Cleveland Mountain Rescue, £1000 to Future Fund a children’s cancer trust based in The North East, Yatton House -£200, Lake District Flood Relief fund -£300 and The Ashwell Trust another local children’s trust-£258.00.
Well done to all supporters and particularly runners for such a fabulous effort……………
